Anyone who has searched high and low for vapor cigarettes certainly knows about Blu Cigs brand. Perhaps the most well-marketed and established player on the circuit, Blu Cigs has been around the US market longer than any other electronic cigarette brand. Establishing their brand early brought huge rewards for the founder of Blu Cigs, Jason Healy, who sold the company to Lorillard, (maker’s of Newport cigarettes) in April of 2012 for $135 Million. This was the first time a Big Tobacco company invested in electronic cigarette smoking, but it certainly won’t be the last.
Blu Cigs reviews online are quite mixed. There is no question that Blu Cigs markets the brand to a hip, urban crowd. A quick look at their website depicts people lighting up the blue-LED tipped e-cigarettes in clubs. The Blu Cigs brand is all about fun and being social, which led them to release what is perhaps the coolest gadget in electronic cigarette smoking – the Social Pack by Blu Cigs is sold as their Premium Starter Kit, and how it functions is one of the most impressive things about this brand.
The Premium pack has “Social Features.” What this means to you is that if you are out and about, your Blu Cigs pack becomes your beeper, so to speak. Creating social awareness, the Blu pack will alert you with a vibration when you are in the vicinity of another Blu Cigs user! You can turn this feature off, of course – but why would you? You may be in need of another Blu Cigs refill cartridge or you may just want to say hello to someone else smoking BluCigs in public. Some people may not be as social and won’t share that opinion, but it’s clearly a gadget that separated Blu Cigs at least on the innovation level for much of last year.
We stated that Blu Cigs reviews online are mixed, and we stand by that fact. What we call a type 4 smoker isn’t really a fan of Blu Cigs. The quality of the smoking experience isn’t quite on par with some of the higher rated e-cigarette brands. Sure, they clearly go after the social smoker and do make e-smoking cool (their branding and marketing is genius) – but that won’t bring on the Cowboy type, the diehards who just want to smoke a heater because they like a rich tobacco taste in a product that looks original.

Blu Cigs may be for you if you are into gadgets, want to accessorize with the trendy brands, or if you are a smoker of any flavor other than tobacco. In our Blu Cigs testing and review, we were turned off by the Classic Tobacco flavor and preferred to smoke tobacco flavors from other e-cig brands. However, we did enjoy Cherry Crush, Vivid Vanilla, and even Magnificent Menthol. Since our review, they released some more flavors, Java Jolt, Peach Schnapps, and Pina Colada. We’ll be back with more Blu Cigs reviews of their cartridges, but we have read positives and encourage people to give them a shot.
The Blu Cigs brand has the best marketing, the first ever acquisition in e-cigs by a major brand, and is so far leading the retail push to really make e-cigarettes a common item in society. Whether you buy Blu Cigs will probably depend on your social habits and what type of smoker you are, but we can say that that products are of quality and have very reasonable prices.
